The Horizon Wind Energy, Texas of the US has recently awarded a repeat order worth $240 million to the step-down subsidiary of Suzlon Energy Ltd, named the Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation. The officials from the company have informed that the repeat order has been awarded for supplying 200 MW of wind turbine capacity and the original contract was inclusive of an order of 400 MW of turbine capacity to be delivered in 2008 and 2009.
According to one of the top officials of the company, the turbine agreement is including the supply of 95 units of the S88-2.1 MW in the year of 2008 and also another 190 units in the year of 2009. The official said that Suzlon is also contracted for the operation and maintenance of the wind turbines for a period of two years and is having an option to offer the same services for five years.
While talking about the repeat order from the Horizon Wind Energy, the CEO of Suzlon Group, Mr. Andre Horbach said, "This order reinforces the trend for renewable energy and wind in the US. Despite economic slowdown, new wind installations have doubled in 2007 from 2006. With growth drivers such as Renewable Portfolio Standards, and the US actively pursuing domestic resources of energy security - we see a strong, promising market going forward". The Chairman and Managing Director of the company, Mr. Tulsi Tanti was also talking about the order and said that it is an important order that demonstrates the position of Suzlon in the US market. He said that as the oil price is increasing day by day, the utilities and industries are looking at ways to hedge power costs at the moment. He further said that the global warming is also likely to have an impact on the world economy, and that is why, a number of nations are currently paying good attention to wind energy.
