The equal Joint Venture (JV) company between the two leading state-run companies like the NTPC and the power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), may take part in the bidding for future ultra mega power projects (UMPPs). The sources related the companies have informed that the JV company is going to get registered by the end of this month and it would bid for the UMPPs only after the registration.
While talking about the possibility of the JV company for the bid, one of the senior officials from NTPC said, "It is likely the joint venture will bid for the future ultra mega power plants". The official added that the joint venture is going to operate independently of NTPC and is also going to compete with the promoter-company. The Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC, Mr. T Sankaralingam was also talking about the matter and said that the new JV has already identified two projects. However, he did not say anything further about the projects or the investments that are likely to be made.
The sources from the industry have informed that the two companies, NTPC and BHEL took the decision to form a JV for executing power projects in India and abroad, in the month of September last year. Mr. Sankaralingam added that the company would also consider taking in a technology partner, once it is registered. He said that the technology partner could either be a domestic company or an overseas firm.
