In a recent official statement, the subsidiary company of the Norway-based Jotun Group, named the Jotun India Pvt Ltd has announced that it has completed taking all the preparations for starting commercial production at its newly-set up plant in Ranjangaon near Pune. The industry sources have informed that the company usually manufactures paints and coatings, and has a good market base in India.
While talking about the new plant of the company, the General Manager of Jotun India Pvt Ltd, Mr. Percy Jijina said, "The commercial production at the $25-million plant will take off in a couple of days and about 60 per cent of the total installed capacity will be utilized initially". He said that the new plant is having a production capacity of up to 50 million liters in wet paint and 10,000 tonnes of powder coatings. He also informed that the company is also planning to more than double its exclusive retail outlets in the country from the current 120 to 250 by the end of 2009.
The sources from the industry have stated that the Jotun India is operating its activities in a number of 67 countries and having 40 manufacturing plants across the world. The sources said that the turnover of the company was Rs 150 crore in the calendar year of 2007, and the company is quite hopeful on the growth of its marine coatings business further. Mr. Jijina added, "We have a 25 per cent market share in marine coatings and are targeting further growth in this segment as a key driver of revenue".
