The largest telecommunication service provider company in India, the Bharti Airtel Ltd, has recently announced that it is planning to expand its reach to the remote villages in the state of Tamil Nadu, very soon. The officials of the company have stated that the villages with a population of 3,000 people are the main target of the company for its network expansion and it is also planning to set up a number of 3,000 new towers as a part of its rural coverage enhancement programme.
The Chief Executive Officer of Bharti Airtel Ltd, Tamil Nadu, Mr. Rajiv Rajagopal was talking about the matter on Wednesday and said, "We have 100 per cent urban coverage, and 80 per cent rural coverage, and our focus will be on rural and semi-urban areas now". He said that the company is thinking of focusing on the major districts in south Tamil Nadu and the coverage of the company is being extended to a number of 507 more villages, in this year. Mr. Rajagopal also claimed that the subscribers in the state are the best users of Airtels Short Message Service (SMS) facility and he added that Airtel is also increasing its SMS capacity from the current 5500 per second to 6500 per second, soon. He informed that the company would complete the process by the month of March 2009.
While talking about the other offerings of the company and said that Airtel is providing all the benefits originally applicable to post paid subscribers, like full talk-time value, to the life time subscribers of the pre-paid service. Adding that the value added services of Airtel are also doing well, Mr. Rajagopal further said, "Our ring tones are popular among the youth as we have included all the latest movie songs".
