In a recent official statement, the giant automobile company in India, Honda Siel has recently announced that it is planning to launch the first ever hybrid car of India, very soon for celebrating its 10th anniversary of selling premium cars in the country. The company officials have informed that the new car has been named as the Honda Civic hybrid and it is capable of running on both electricity and petrol. The officials added that the company is required to pay an import duty of 114% for selling the hybrid variant in India.
While talking about the companys plans with the new car launching, one of the top officials of the company has stated that the benefit of the excise duty cut from 24 per cent to 14 per cent, is going to be proportional to the localization content. The official said that the average price of a non hybrid Civic is pegged at Rs 12 lakhs and the company has not finalized the price of the new Honda Civic hybrid car, till now. He also said that the hybrid variant is 60 % more fuel efficient and the company has not indicated any sales number for the new car, as well.
The sources from the company have stated that the company is planning to introduce its hatch back compact car - Jazz - in India, by the last quarter of 2009. The sources added that the company has launched its latest product, the eighth generation bestselling Accord in the Indian market on Tuesday and the car is a luxury car that sits in the upper end of the A5 premium segment in SIAMs classification. The President & CEO of Honda Siel Cars, Mr. Masahiro Takedagawa was speaking on the launch of the Accord and said, "The eighth generation Accord is an epoch making innovation. It offers tangible benefits to customers". The Senior General Manager of Honda Siel Cars, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen added, "The new Accord is a larger vehicle and has improved manoeuvrability. It is as nimble as a small car yet more muscular in its looks".
