The famous fashion brand of the Madura Garments, named Allen Solly, has recently stated that it is planning to enter the kidswear segment in India, in the later half of this year. The company officials informed that the company is test marketing its childrens garments targeted at the children in the age group of 4-12 years, at the moment. They added that Allen Solly is likely to launch the childrens garments within the next six months through select company outlets.
The Chief Operating Officer of Allen Solly, Mr. R Satyajit was talking about the companys plans and said that the kidswear market is being considered as among the fastest-growing segments of the apparel industry. He said that the company is aiming to play a key role in the branded kidswear market and the organized kidswear market is pegged at Rs 5,000-6,000 crore and growing at around 20-30 per cent, at the moment. He added, "We have taken a new initiative to grow this market further. Presently, we are test marketing the kidswear in two of our outlets in Delhi and Bangalore. Based on the market response, we will extend it to other company-owned outlets, franchisee showrooms and multi brand outlets in a phased manner".
While elaborating the companys plans further, Mr. Satyajit said that the kidswear range is inclusive of t-shirts and jeans among others. He informed that the brand, Allen Solly, did increase its sales by 34 per cent in 2007-08 to around Rs 300 crore and is targeting at a growth of 40 per cent during the current fiscal. He said that the new growth is likely to come from the retail expansion and also from the launching of new categories. He added that the company is planning to introduce new categories like Urban and Vintage collections in addition to its existing range of garments divided into Classic and Sport, as well. He further informed that the company is also expanding its retail presence in the country by adding another 15-20 outlets for an investment of around Rs 30 crore, very soon.
