Ravindra joshi , secretary of Pune Press Owners Association is enjoying his victory of decrease in Octroi of Punes printers from 7% to 3%.
Joshi states: "The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) increased the Octroicess from 3% to 7% on goods and material transported into Pune. This caused a huge dent in our balance sheet. As it is, printers are going through a tough period." This how the PPOA along with other industry associations took up the matter with the municipal authorities.
Ravindra joshi , as secretary of PPOA vide his letter informed PMA high officials : "The printers in Pune import modern printing equipment and machinery, which are costly. While importing these items, 37% taxes in the form of import and other taxes are being paid .in addition, they also have to pay an additional 7% to the Pune municipal Corporation. This is not just." PPOA has also made a representation to a major Indian manufacturer and "its monopolistic attempts at imposing a dealer on pune printers." Joshi refuses to mention the name of the manufacturers but says: "the main thing is, PPOA is a united body and as long as there is solidarity among printers anything and every-thing can be achieved."
