Maharashtra Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan has laid Foundation Stone for Reliance Powers 300 MW coal based Butibori Power Project, being developed specifically for the States industrial segment, under the unique Group captive Power Projects (GCPP) model.
Vidarbha Industries Power Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been launched by Reliance Power Limited (RPower) and local industries in MIDC region of Nagpur and its surrounding areas to construct the first Group Captive Power Project in the region.
The project is being developed as a fast track project and is likely to go on stream by 2011.The power generated from this plant will be supplied first to the industries in MIDC areas of Butibori and Hingna and other industrial areas in the region and the surplus power will be supplied to meet the shortfalls elsewhere through open access.
Over 200 industries in the industrial zone of Butibori and Hingna are expected to be the beneficiaries of this power project as they will get uninterrupted and quality power supply once the power project is commissioned.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, while speaking on the occasion said, "We are thankful to the Reliance ADA Group for coming to the Vidarbha region. Butibori project, being a dedicated power project for the industrial segment, would lead to the industrial developments in the region."
He also said that in view of the growing industrial demand in the region, Reliance Power must think of doubling the capacity to 600MW from the present capacity of 300MW.
Reliance Power CEO Jayarama chalasani said, "We are confident of completing the project by 2011 and have proposed to double the capacity to 600 mw. We look forward to the support of the government for necessary approvals."
The Union Minister of Power, Sushil Kumar Shinde, said, "The effort of the Reliance ADA Group needs to be praised in view of the facts that the group has made large investments towards capacity addition envisaged under the 11th Five Year Plan."
He added, "Reliance Power is the only group which will be contributing a lions share by executing capacity additions of around 32200MW including the three UMPPs."
