Gigabyte Technology Co., LTD, a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards has informed that it has extended its 2 oz. Copper PCB range of motherboards to include mainstream through to high-end offerings on both the Intel and AMD platforms.
Discerning users can now choose from Intel X58, P45, P43, AMD 790FX, 790X, 790GX, 780G, 770 and NVIDIA nForce 720D chipset motherboards with 2oz copper PCBs. Gigabyte motherboards that feature 2oz copper PCBs are the Ultra Durable 3 and Ultra Durable 3 Classis-series that can be recognised by their respective logos.
Gigabyte first launched Ultra Durable 3 products in Q3 2008 and is currently still the only vendor to offer the 2oz copper PCB specification on consumer desktop models.
The major difference between traditional 1oz copper PCBs and 2oz copper PCBs is that both the Power and Ground layers in the latter enjoy double the amount of copper. This delivers dramatically lower system temperature, improved energy efficiency and enhanced stability under heavy workloads such as overclocking.
In addition, doubling the amount of copper lowers the PCB impedance by 50%. Impedance is a measure of how much the circuit impedes the flow of current. The less the flow of current is impeded, the less amount of energy is wasted. For Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 motherboards, this means total PCB electrical waste is reduced by 50%, which also means less heat is generated. 2 ounces of copper also provides improved signal quality, providing better system stability and allowing greater margins for overclocking.
