Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. (ECIL), a multi-product and multi-disciplinary organisation, has bagged its best ever initial order book for the new financial year 2009-10.
ECIL Chairman and Managing Director K. S. Rajasekhara Rao said, "The Company, focussing on atomic energy, defence, space and security applications, has initial orders worth Rs. 1,000 crore for the next fiscal, the maximum figure compared to any other financial year."
The gross turnover of the company in 2005-06 was Rs. 700 crore with Rs. 52 crore profit before tax. The turnover touched the Rs. 1,000-crore mark the following year and it went up to Rs. 1,002 crore in 2007-08 with Rs. 201-crore profit.
The year 2008-09 too was estimated to end with over Rs. 1,000-crore turnover with good profit, Mr. Rao said. He said that the company also stepped up its recruitment of young engineers since last three years.
It is on an upswing following its contribution to antenna tracking control system for the successful moon mission- Chandrayaan-I, and its ground support system for Brahmos missile.
Apart from supplying 80,000 electronic voting machines this year, its IT applications to benefit society provide health enhancement equipment, including tele-radiology, farmer-friendly market information kiosks.
