India is planning to export seven lakh tonnes vegetable oil in the month of April.
Ashok Sethia, Solvent Extractors Association of India President said, "Looking at the current trend, I expect about six to seven lakh tonnes shipments in April as well as May and wont be surprised to see a new record of 75 lakh tone during the current oil year ending with October 2009."
He added that Vegetable oil import is expected to remain high at about seven lakh ton each in April and May, which is likely to push the overall shipments to record 75 lakh tone in 2008-09 season ending October.
According to reports, India had imported a record 63 lakh tone of vegetable oils during 2007-08 season (November to October). Edible oil import rose by over 77% to 34.34 lakh tone during November-March period, as against 19.34 lakh tone last year.
